Overdub cloned my voice then added a cough I never made

Edited a 22-min founder interview in Descript last night on my M2. Text edit was fine — cut the ums, moved a paragraph, done.
Overdub though. I typed a one-line fix and it inserted this weird throat-clear that isnt in any of my samples. Regenerated the clone twice. Same cough.
Anyone else getting phantom audio after a clone refresh, or am I just bad at cleaning the training clip?

Had the same on a docs walkthrough last week. Fixed it by re-recording ~45s of clean takes with zero room noise, then regenerating the clone from scratch. The old clone kept bleeding mouth clicks into every Overdub line.
Also check your training clip for HVAC hum — Descript seems to bake that into the voice model weirdly.
honest question: how much time does Overdub actually save vs just recording the line again?
we tried it for customer call snippets and activation tanked when the voice drift made people distrust the clip. long-form podcasts maybe. short clips? doubtful.
timed it last month on a 90-sec product teaser.
overdub path: ~18 min (clone refresh + 4 regenerations + scrubbing weird mouth noise). re-record path: 6 min including one retake.
so yeah — for short clips i just hit record again. overdub only wins when the original take is buried under a 40-min interview i dont want to rebook.
Got the phantom cough on a brand video last Tuesday. Same M2, same Descript build.
What fixed it for me was redoing the clone with the mic ~15cm closer and killing the AC first. Old clip was recorded in an open kitchen and Descript kept inventing this soft throat-clear on every Overdub line that started with a vowel.
Wild that regenerating the clone twice didnt clear it for you either.
yeah if it coughs once i just trash the clone
tried scrubbing the training clip for like 20 min once. still got a weird inhale on the word "basically". new 60s quiet take fixed it in one regen. not worth fighting the old model.
