been using Yap this week for PR comments on my M2 Air.
on-device whisper is fine for english. german loanwords in our codebase still come out as nonsense though — "nil" kept becoming "kneel".
anyone found a decent custom vocab trick, or am i stuck correcting half the diffs?

allowlist helped for nil/Sequelize. still wrecks Swift optionals tho — "Optional.some" became "optional sum" twice yesterday and almost merged.
i just type the jargon by hand now and dictate the rest. wrists happier, diffs less cursed.
Read their changelog — they ship a small allowlist file for proper nouns. I dumped our domain terms in there (nil, Sequelize, Sidekiq) and the kneel thing stopped.
Still mangles "kubectl" into "cube cattle" about 1 in 5 times though. On-device or not, vocab is the whole game.
yeah the allowlist is basically admitting the acoustic model never saw your domain.
i logged 40 Yap fails last week — half were short tokens (nil, pid, uuid) and half were compound CLI names. if their eval set is just librispeech, no surprise "kubectl" becomes livestock.
Same on M3 Pro. I dictate commit subjects while walking to the tram and it is mostly ok until Norwegian street names sneak in.
If it ever phones home for "better" recognition I am uninstalling same day.
"cube cattle" took me out. I keep a folder of these for conference slides.
Tried Yap for live demo notes last Thursday — said "deploy to staging" and it wrote "deploy toast aging". On-device or not, I am not pasting that into a PR until vocab is first-class.
